Mark Twain once said, "I never let school interfere with my education" (Twain). Although both terms, school and education, go hand in hand, the effects on students vary greatly. School, defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “an institution for education,” implies that the organization operates the school system for ulterior motives such as finances and personal gain (“School”). In contrast, instruction is “the action of teaching someone,” which focuses on providing knowledge and understanding to students (“Instruction”). The education American students receive appears to be corrupted by the politics of the public school system. The failure to educate America's youth forces these individuals to invest in other educational options, endangering the well-being of every student and the future of public schools. To accommodate the diversity of students' learning styles, the American public school system should improve the quality of education, accelerate student learning, and apply personal interests using the most relevant attributes of private education, homeschooling, and 'unschooling.
