Fiction vs. The Reality of College Life In movies and TV shows, Hollywood portrays college in many different ways. In Hollywood, college is stereotyped in extreme ways, like, you always have your jock uniform, crazy people standing outside the library or student center shoving their beliefs down the throats of anyone who happens to pass by, and then you have your party school that does nothing but celebrate and the philosophical schools that only care about votes and more votes. They are filling high school students with false hopes of a relaxed, beer-filled atmosphere where they won't need to do anything but party to succeed. In fact, Hollywood is giving students a false reality of what college is really like. Hollywood bases films there that are far from extremes and never from reality. After reading several articles, watching some movies and interviewing some students on campus; I have found that there are two main types of schools when it comes to film college, the party school and the philosopher school. In Tranquility Lost, the writer explains party school as "A place where slackers can drink, get high, have sex, skip class, and still get by." Later in the film the school principal was fed up with the Deltas' mentality towards the school, so he put them on super-secret probation, as he calls it, where if they did anything else wrong he would have them shut down. Not knowing this, the Delta house students took the answers to the upcoming test they had and cheated, but it didn't work in their favor because it turned out they were the wrong answers, so they all failed. In response to their failure you would think that reality would hit them but it didn't, they threw another party.
