“The secret to change is to focus all your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new” – Socrates. Although students believe that graduating is essential for a better future, they consider dropping out because they believe they will not be able to succeed or will fail. They are unclear about the steps they need to take due to the problems they face during college. But students should remember that a college degree is necessary for a better career and a successful future. Students may face various financial and academic problems while attending college, but one must remember that it is not only considered a basic job requirement but also helps in gaining intellectual skills. Socrates teaches to remove all negativity to fight every obstacle and bring a solution to give a new beginning with positive energy. So students should not drop out of school. Say no to plagiarism. And so they think about dropping out of college. SJSU statistics from 2014 show that 48.4 percent of San Jose State University students failed to graduate within 150 percent of the expected time. The reasons for failure to graduate are that 34% of students dropped out, 4% transferred and 10% are still enrolled. This indicates that the dropout rate is higher than the other two and it is a real problem that needs a proper solution as it is not the right path to a better career. Students come to college to learn something and succeed. They attend college to prepare for a job and a prosperous future. Not completing a college degree has negative effects because over a lifetime, the average worker with a college degree will earn about $1 million more than a worker without a post-secondary education. . Other statistics show that the percentage of jobs requiring post-secondary education has doubled over the past 40 years, as jobs require more skills. So the bachelor's degree is not only essential for a job with regards to money but also to knowledge. The other key benefits of attending college are learning more, improving reading, writing, and listening skills, and even growing up. Therefore “students should start by doing what is necessary; so do what is possible; and suddenly they will do the impossible.” The common problem that students struggle with is academic. They feel discouraged when they don't get good grades or enough support to succeed in their studies. They feel that they are unable to complete college and should drop out. To overcome this obstacle, students should meet professors and explain their problems to them as they are meant to help students deal with academic issues. Students can also hire subject tutors; the tutors are senior citizens who can understand their condition very well and help them both academically and emotionally as they might have gone through this situation. Students can also form study groups with seniors or classmates who are willing to help because they feel more comfortable with people in their age group. I went through the same condition where I constantly got low grades in English subjects. I was very depressed because I wasn't getting any help to solve it. I went to the professor of my subject who helped me overcome the problem and get abetter score. He taught me various techniques to improve and master my weaknesses. I followed his advice which was very helpful and gave me further success in the matter. Another problem students face is that they feel lonely in college because they don't have fun. This can make you feel helpless and depressed. They don't get involved in class discussions, they pay attention to their studies, they always remain distant from others, they feel alone and dejected. This not only affects academics but also the mental state of students which causes negative effects on their health. Students should try to make connections so they don't feel alone. For this they should join various clubs inside and outside the college. You should try to make friends and go out in your free time. Whether it's a friend, family member, or therapist, finding someone to talk to can make a huge difference. I understand it's the biggest challenge, but it's the most healing thing you can do. For example, SJSU has many clubs related not only to important topics but also to social activities. Students should join them. I not only joined the Software Engineering Club but also the gym to increase connections. This helps me a lot when I feel down or depressed. Therefore, students should always try to find a solution by consulting someone or taking help from someone. Many students face financial hardship and think that graduating is a waste of money, but instead invest their money. When students earn their college degrees, there is a better chance that they will get a job worthy of their education and efforts and can earn much more than the money they spent during their college education. College offers an expanded level of education that is highly valued in the workplace and is helpful in obtaining promotions. To overcome financial problems, students should seek help from campus financial offices that provide scholarships, educational loans, and grants. They also establish payment plans such as installments to reduce the student's financial burden. My experience tells me that I may drop out of college due to a financial crisis in my family, but I have made the wise decision to complete college. To resolve this issue, I asked SJSU's FAFSA (Office of Finance and Scholarships) department for help. They gave me a scholarship so I can pay my tuition and continue my degree. Every penny I invest will come back to me when I get a valuable job after graduation. Data shows that college graduates with a bachelor's degree typically earn 66% more than those with only a high school diploma and are also much less likely to face unemployment. Another problem that students face is that while studying they do part-time jobs which prove to be a distraction as they crave to earn more and more money, without focusing on academics. They think they shouldn't get a degree because they already have a job and can earn and save money at the same time without studying. Work pressure can also force them not to pay attention to their studies and eventually drop out. Respected individuals such as Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Jeff Bezos have completed their degrees with honors and have gone on to become founders of valuable companies such as Google and Amazon. This inspires you to earn your degree and succeed by converting dreams into reality. Statistics show that by 2020, approximately two-thirds of job openings will require post-secondary education or training. One of the testimonies on the matter given by a good friend of mine stated: "When I started university I was very weak academically,, 21(2), 133-149.
