An environment is the green space that surrounds us as living beings. We must always keep it clean and pollution-free so that we can live a healthy and peaceful life. However, environmental issues have become a threat to the environment and those who inhabit it. Surely the planet is our home, but people are not the only inhabitants; unfortunately, very often they forget this point. In most cases, environmental problems are caused by harmful human activities on the biophysical environment. The waste problem contributes significantly to environmental degradation and represents a threat to the future of our planet. Say no to plagiarism. It consists of waste products that have been disposed of improperly, without consent. This includes waste such as paper, chewing gum, cans and bottles left in an open or public place. Cigarette butts are among the most abandoned objects in my community and other municipalities. Litter can come from a variety of sources, including intentional litter from drivers throwing trash out of windows, pedestrians leaving trash on the street or sidewalk, or people leaving trash behind at public events. The pervasive nature of waste is evident in our community, where waste can be found in backyards, streets, streets, schools, parks and every open field. The accumulation of waste has reached alarming levels, leading to blocked drainage systems and flooding of roads during rains. Illegal dumping and waste happens due to carelessness and negligence. Whether it's pedestrians littering the streets, drivers throwing trash out of car windows, or individuals littering public spaces, the result is the same: environmental degradation. The prevalence of waste demonstrates how humans contribute to environmental problems through their actions. Cigarette butt waste, in particular, poses a significant challenge, as smokers often dispose of them irresponsibly, further exacerbating environmental problems. The consequences of waste extend beyond environmental degradation and aesthetic concerns; They also pose serious health and safety risks. Waste can contaminate ecosystems and harm wildlife, while also serving as a breeding ground for bacteria and attracting parasites. Additionally, litter can pose fire risks, especially when waste items such as cigarette butts are not properly extinguished. Furthermore, waste tarnishes the image of communities and sends a message of apathy towards environmental management. To address the waste problem in my community, I have launched several initiatives aimed at raising awareness and promoting responsible waste management practices. As a resident of Kagiso Extension 13 and with the support of my community, I have organized educational sessions at my grandparents' church to educate community members, especially youth, about the harmful effects of waste on the environment. By interacting with the community and raising awareness of the consequences of littering, we have sought to instill a sense of responsibility and encourage behavior change among residents. One of the key initiatives undertaken to combat waste was organizing a clean-up campaign in our community. Community members came together to clean up illegal dumping sites and remove waste from the spaces.
