Writing about certain topics, such as science or history, has always been very challenging for me, and based on previous state tests, information science articles make up the majority of passages chosen for the test. In the aforementioned practical essays, multiple passages of various kinds were presented; writing on many different topics has helped me prepare for numerous types of essays. Practice essays have helped me become an all-around better writer for the future. I forced myself to complete practice essays that focused on topics I had difficulty writing about, such as science or history. While I was exposed to the many types of essays I could write, I also strengthened my writing conventions by viewing many organized example essays. I learned to use punctuation, such as commas, colons, semicolons, hyphens, and dashes, in a more advanced way. I strengthened my skills on the difference between homophones – like to and too – and how to use them correctly. As I did these things, it helped me strengthen my spelling on commonly misspelled words like very, government, and definite. The skillfully reinforced writing conventions helped me write a more advanced essay than others. Properly organizing an essay has been beneficial to writing a successful essay. Before my previous English course, I organized essays unsystematically. Every time an essay was written, it was never in the same order.
