Due to deep cuts to Virginia's budget system, nursing home and hospital officials say it could lead to layoffs at facilities across the commonwealth. Hospitals across the state have told their members they will most likely have to lay off 4,532 jobs, including healthcare workers. It is also claimed that the number could rise to 6,321. In one Roanoke field office, American Health Care has laid off four of its employees, and will soon have a wage freeze for the year, laying off nearly all of its 2,200 employers. A July statistical report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics says the healthcare sector added jobs in July, but the budget fund forced it to cut about 4,000 hospital jobs nationwide (Budget Cuts May Infect) . At the end of 2012-2013, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBMC) announced that 950 positions will be eliminated, with 475 currently held by employees. Davie County Hospital spokesman Chad Campbell says there are 475 jobs, of which 56.5 come from the Lexington Medical Center branch.
