Through military conquests, architectural innovation, legal code, and transformation efforts Justinian recreated the greatness of the Roman Empire in the Byzantine Empire. Justinian's sole aim was to build a new Rome, take the example of his predecessors and transform it into the most powerful economic, cultural and military force in Europe. Justinian improved upon the Roman laws of the past through the Justinian Code, architecture through structural ingenuity, and religion through the solid foundation of a single faith. The character of the man Justinian, set aside by his various successes, reveals that he possessed qualities similar to previous Roman emperors and flaws that weakened the Byzantine Empire. The plight of Emperor Justinian left a notable imprint on the Byzantine Empire in many ways. Justinian brought with his reign the construction of countless architectural successes that strengthened his empire into a golden age. The best-known and most important of his works is the Hagia Sophia, a majestic structure that, when completed in 537 AD, remained the largest cathedral in the world for hundreds of years to come. It fascinated people with its beautiful gold-covered ceilings and seemed as if it were suspended from the sky, this perfection was seen as only possible through the influence of God. It was not only a place of worship but an attraction that attracted many travelers who came to admire the show, thus promoting trade and cultural diffusion. The creation of the Wall of Theodosius, the Wall of Constantine, the aqueducts, the roads and the Hippodrome were all beneficial to the Byzantine Empire in terms of economic, cultural and resistance-related undertakings. However, despite its internal flaws and choices, the Byzantine Empire achieved many great achievements under his reign. From the scattered beliefs of the people to a single faith, to the code of laws that erased any confusion on the citizens and brought clarity to them, to the reconquered lands of the West, to the construction of ingenious and beautiful structures that amaze to this day. He made three great contributions, the creation of wonderful structures and cities like Constantinople, a foundation built on a single faith in God, and the Code of Justinian. His political and social reforms, economic successes and military conquests mark his legacy as testimony to the creation of a new Byzantine Empire.
