1) Taylor is a practical and worldly young girl from Kentucky who lives with her mother, Lou Ann. She considers her hometown small and stuffy and wants to avoid getting pregnant by escaping to a more interesting life. Some qualities that make her "flee" are a sense of personal pride and the ability to defend herself, as well as a mind determined to preserve herself. He is also a strong and compassionate person, who commits his courage for the good of others. 2) Taylor's mother influences Taylor to act more courageously and fight hard for her rights. He also convinces her to marry a tobacco farmer by saying that being pregnant and barefoot was not her style. She plays a tender, maternal and worrying role, fearing her own death and that of her son. She is a very traditional woman and believes that marriage and life should last forever.
