Gilabert argues that positive duties are also important when it comes to determining rich countries' assistance to the poor. Positive duties, according to Gilabert, are duties that benefit and protect human beings. These positive duties are particularly important for eradicating global poverty. According to Gilabert, “meeting negative tariffs is not enough to guarantee the absence of global poverty, even if all poverty that currently exists can be traced back to the impact of harmful global policies.”.
