The long-term effects of using natural resourcesDid you know that oil may no longer be available by 2050? This is due to excessive consumption over hundreds of years. How much oil do you think you consume in a year? The average American household uses 3-4 gallons of oil per day, or 1,277 gallons of oil per year! The long-term effects of using natural resources are global warming, water pollution and even oil depletion. Global warming may lead to the end of life as we know it. Global warming is induced by the burning of fossil fuels, which release a gas known as carbon dioxide. “The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which includes more than 1,300 scientists from the United States and other countries, projects a temperature increase of between 2.5 and 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century” (INTERNATIONAL PANEL ON CLIMATE CHANGE). Global warming is not something we can ignore as it affects almost everything on earth. Furthermore, global warming is driving not only humanity but also other species to extinction. “The effects that scientists had previously predicted would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise, and longer, more intense heat waves” (IPOCC). The effects of burning fossil flues over hundreds of years are finally catching up with us and forcing us to make a drastic change or face harsh living conditions and perhaps even extinction. The burning of fossil flues has had a major impact on the daily lives of almost all living things. Global warming is... in the center of the paper... but for mother earth. You must vow to never flood the earth with artificial products that are not decomposable. We must also promise to end or at least limit the use and consumption of oil, coal and water. Oil companies simply keep society guessing at peak oil, or how much oil is left. There isn't an infinite amount of mountains to mine and blast for valuable coal. Only 1% of all water is drinkable without treatment, saying that already over a million people face water problems and that this number will only increase if nothing changes. Change must come; if nothing changes humans will not thrive for another century, humans may not exist for another century if we continue to consume and pollute mother earth's natural resources.
