My grandmother's death was very sudden and took my entire family completely by surprise because, although they were still very sad that my grandfather had died about a month earlier, she was, overall, in good health other than the fact that he had Alzheimer's. We were all able to attend his funeral except my brother, who had just started his freshman year at NAU a few days before. Even though my grandmother's death was a much bigger shock, it still had – at least in my mind – less of an impact on me than my grandfather's expected death some time earlier.
