A fair number of people find it easy to consider poverty as "God's will", thus absolving themselves of any blame for the miseries created by the poor conditions of society. In this regard, they also draw attention to several references in the Holy Bible to make their point. Likewise, there are some people who emphasize the importance of charity and pro-poor spending in alleviating poverty. Almost all Muslim societies have many believers who say that poverty cannot prevail if all rich Muslims pay their Zakat regularly. Some even go so far as to argue that implementing the Islamic Zakat system would bring in so many resources that the nation would not need to apply any other tax to run its affairs. However, such claims cannot be supported by any reliable research or data. Far from the scenario of God's will, corruption is a major cause of poverty. Furthermore, all countries are corrupt, even the richest governments. Corruption does not negate all that is right or explain away all that is bad.
