John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on May 29, 1917. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941 and became an officer in the intelligence. John Kennedy suffered a serious back injury and was sent back to the United States in December 1943. After further back surgery he returned to civilian life and for the next twelve months worked as a journalist covering the United Nations Conference in San Francisco (Simkin, para. 1). A member of the Democratic Party, Kennedy won election to the House of Representatives in 1946. Kennedy entered the presidential race in 1960 and delivered his inaugural address in 1961 (Simkin, para. 2). On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was killed by an assassin's bullets as his convoy passed through Dallas, Texas (Korte, para. 2). A pilot car and several motorcycles preceded the presidential limousine. Kennedy was traveling with his wife and the head of the Secret Service. The next car carried up to eight Secret Service agents and was followed by a car carrying Lyndon B. Johnson and Ralph Yarborough (Simkin, para. 8). Over the years, there have been numerous conspiracy theories linking the CIA, FBI, and Mafia to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Kennedy inherited a chaotic and out-of-control federal agency when he assumed the presidency in 1961. The Central Intelligence Agency pursued its goals during the Eisenhower administration.
