Her childhood left her lonely and hostile, but she channeled that into something positive, which in turn became legendary. Despite the odds stacked against her simply for being a woman, she made important contributions to psychology. He did not accept Sigmund Freud's norms and challenged many of his notions. She paved the way for many psychologists, especially women or those who wanted to work in women's psychology. The reason we chose Karen Horney is because we are young women looking to enter the field of psychology as well. We were inspired by her courageous attempt to stand up to Sigmund Freud despite his prestigious position in the psychological community and by the possible public ridicule that would emerge against her. She is one of the very few psychologists still cited today, who immediately won our respect. However, we believed it hadn't gotten the recognition it deserves, which is why we wanted to introduce it to the class. As we read our psychology books, she is mentioned on many pages, and authors usually summarize her contributions in a paragraph or two. If we could write about Karen Horney and her legacy in psychology in more than ten pages, why can't they?
