Who loves spending a night away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life? Almost all of us love the experience of spending a night or several nights in a nice hotel. Whether for business or pleasure, a nice hotel experience can be refreshing. The hotel manager is the person responsible for making sure the hotel runs efficiently and ensuring guests have an enjoyable stay. Coordinates all services, housekeeping, finance and maintenance. I have two years of experience working in the hotel industry and I plan to continue learning the hotel industry with the aim of becoming a manager of my own hotel. Nature of the job The job of the hotel manager has many responsibilities, he has to manage the hotel and its staff. The hotel manager must also plan and execute advertising and promotional campaigns designed to attract more guests. Lodging managers must also ensure that guests on vacation or on business have a good experience in a hotel, motel or other type of accommodation facility. They also ensure that the plant is run efficiently and profitably. Managers also handle all requests in a professional and courteous manner, in person on the telephone or via email ("Accommodation Manager"). “Hospitality is a broad term for an industry that includes many types of employers and hundreds of job titles” (Aushn,23). Hospitality is another word for the business of hotels, motels and resorts. It is estimated that one in eighteen employees in the United States holds some type of job in the hospitality industry. Travelers in the United States spent $527 billion in 2001, and that figure has increased every year since. (Ashen 23). They operate small stately structures within a home. Many of these homes are restored historic homes and offer a true vintage experience. A concierge in a hotel provides services to hotel guests such as dinner reservations with show tickets or taxi service. The hotel receptionist and office manager assist the hotel manager in a large hotel and take care of those specific areas ("Accommodation Managers"). The career of a hotel manager is very demanding. They carry out many tasks throughout the day and have great responsibilities. Their main job is to make sure that the hotel or motel is run efficiently so that their guests have an enjoyable stay. I trained to work as a hotel manager and would like to continue doing this as a career.
