(Ravelli and Webber, 2013, p. 294) Feminist theory suggests that all families are based on conception and birth and are specific based on time and space. (Ravelli and Webber, 2013, p.294) Furthermore, feminists reject the idea that the roles of men and women in the family are natural and biologically different due to gender. They suggest that everything has a gender in everyday life; basically everything is based on a different genre and only certain ideas or tasks can be realized through a certain genre. Post-structuralist theory examines the idea of the “good mother” and “good father” and argues that these gender divisions are embedded in power relations. (Ravelli and Webber, 2013, p. 296) Impressions of good mothers and good fathers act as normalizing discourses, which constitute the boundaries of what is acceptable and appropriate and work to control people's behavior. Depending on gender and position in the family, power relations develop in different family roles. Queer theory is the latest sociological approach within the family. Queer theory is influenced by post-structuralist theory. The queer theorist can question the expectation of heterosexual relationships and assumptions of “heterorelationality” (Ravelli and Webber, 2013, p.197).
