The BathroomJohnny woke up, shivered, put his robe over his overalls, got back under the covers and went to sleep. Two hours later, the TV alarm woke a still cold Johnny Black. Johnny turned on the shower and used the stopper from the kitchen sink to fill the tub. He stepped in, turned up the water until it was a little more than lukewarm, then lay down under the hot, pounding spray of the shower. The water always seemed to cool the moment it entered the tub, perhaps due to the cool air in the room. Well, soon the room would warm up as it filled with the hot water vapor coming out of the glass shower. Johnny put his hands under his head and lay down completely so the water filled his ears. Now she could hear the sound of the shower hitting the tub water from under the water. Everything seemed much calmer now. Johnny felt tired and dizzy and happy to be still, rested, calm. Everything seemed perfect. The landing water was still a little warm, but the water filling the tub was the perfect temperature. Johnny couldn't think of how he could be happier, maybe if he didn't have to go to work in an hour, but right now it seemed very far away. Johnny closed his eyes and rested peacefully, drifting in and out of a half-dream. of floating through warm liquid clouds. Suddenly, Johnny felt very cold. Something was wrong. He wasn't tired anymore, but he couldn't say why. When he opened his eyes, he realized that the temperature around him was much cooler than it had been a moment before: not cold, but not the perfect, dreamy bath he had become accustomed to. As he began to look around, his mind realized exactly what was wrong. Hours had passed since he closed his eyes. The bathtub had overflowed some time ago and the bathroom floor was flooded! The carpets were soaked and the room had a suffocating odor. Somehow, Johnny wasn't in a hurry to do anything. It was clear that this had been going on for so long that a few more minutes wouldn't have hurt anything. John looked up at the bathroom window, a skylight he had built years ago. It was there, miles above his head. Johnny suspected it was around noon. He could feel how pruned his hands were, with wrinkles all over them. He could hear scratching the
