My family members, like my uncle, taught me the importance of personal sacrifice, and I have embraced the common values of my culture, determined to use the My experiences and my time benefit those around me. Me. Starting in high school, I used my free time to volunteer in my hometown, helping with charity events and more. Through volunteering in my community, I saw how my efforts and services could help others. As an undergraduate student, I was exposed to a variety of volunteer work in the medical field, learning more about healthcare and how medicine is connected to community service. By volunteering at events like Vietnamese health fairs, where I helped provide health screenings to low-income Asian-Americans, and by volunteering at urban hospitals like Texas Health Dallas, I not only learned more about medicine, but I also bore witness to how diverse my community was and learned more about the struggles of the people who live there. Additionally, I sought positions where I could encourage and mentor others within my university. By acting as president of Molding Doctors and leader of supplemental general chemistry education, I have been able to use my experiences as a student to guide my
