Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Jean Jacques Rousseau were political philosophers who formulated their own version of social contract theory. Social contract theory is a treaty or agreement that developed a set of laws, organized a functional society, and created the need to be governed. It was established when man realized that there was no law. Humanity ultimately sought the desire for security and order. To receive security and order people must voluntarily give up all their rights and freedoms and be obedient to some kind of authority. The social contract theory consists of two agreements known as "Pactum Unionis" and "Pactum Subionis". The “Pactum Unionis” agreement would help people with their problems and difficulties by teaching them to value and protect their livelihoods and property because these things are now seen as vital to the survival of all humanity. Furthermore, the order would allow people to live side by side in peace and harmony. This would drastically increase the value that man can gain from life by creating respect. On the other hand, the “Pactum Subobjectis” agreement would help people with their problems and difficulties by uniting them together and getting them to pledge to obey and surrender. authority. The authority will ensure that everyone has protection for their life, property and freedom; however, freedom would only be protected up to a certain point. These two agreements are the reason we have a government today. Thomas Hobbes' version of the social contract is also known as his legal theory or Hobbesian theory. He published a book called “Leviathan” in which he outlined his conception of the social contract. Hobbes believed in absolute sovereignty,...... middle of paper... and also in confusion because he had two concepts. However, after reading and researching I was able to understand and agree with his concepts. In the first concept it is stated that humanity lived a happy life in the state of nature and explains the transition from the state of nature to today's life. He says the reason for the transition would be for the population to increase forcing people to interact with each other, which would ultimately end in conflict.
