Throughout world history exploration has been an important factor in the development of the world, but who is the greatest explorer? One explorer who caught my attention is the explorer and navigator Pedro Alvares Cabral. Pedro Cabral was a Portuguese born between 1467 and 1468 in Belmonte, Portugal. He was born into the “noble Portuguese family” (Elizabethan-era.org.uk, n.d.) and from there he was able to receive a proper and advanced education. Examining more deeply the life of Pedro Alvares Cabral, I consider him the best explorer ever for multiple reasons: Cabral was a man who had the right attitude in his exploration of the world, he added to the results of past successful trips to improve the results , and also made his discoveries with the success of his mission. All these are signs of how Cabral is the best of the even more famous explorers of the time. On long and dangerous journeys across the world, the emotions you portray have major effects on the outcome of events. Pedro Alvares Cabral was a man who had control over his attitude and in return this helped make his journey a success. An example that demonstrates this argument is that Cabral is said to have been an explorer who “made a special effort to treat the inhabitants with kindness, welcoming them aboard his caravel” (Britannica.com, n.d.). That quote was taken in a context referring to Cabral bringing people to his side in Brazil and having them accompany him on his journey as help. With this kind of display of emotion, Cabral demonstrated that he was able to accomplish something that other more energetic explorers could not, freeing up extra help. Along with that event, Cabral also managed to display his profound mental strength in the form of anger and revenge. During his journey, Cabral and his men were... halfway there... while still meeting the requirements they were given. In addition to that, Cabral was also able to find lands that had not yet been touched by other explorers before him and was able to claim them for Portugal to rule as their own. Taking everything together, it is obvious that Pedro Alvares Cabral surpasses and outclasses all other explorers due to his great mind, excellent completion of work, and added discoveries from his time spent away from Portugal.
