For a company to be successful it is important that it has an excellent organization. Organization can be defined in many different ways. Bateman and Snell define organization as the assembly and coordination of human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources necessary to achieve objectives. Organizational activities include attracting people into the organization, specifying job responsibilities, grouping work into work units, sorting and allocating resources, and creating conditions for people and things to work together to achieve maximum success (Bateman & Snell, 2011). When a company is able to successfully organize every part of its business, it will be able to maintain a solid foundation. A company that has managed to succeed thanks to the good use of organization is that of the General Electric Company. They have what is called a “flat” structure where everyone becomes equal (Clawson, 2012). General Electric had 29 levels, but today it only has a handful of levels (Bateman & Snell, 2011). The General Electric Company (GE) is organized with its CEO, shareholder, and board of directors at the top of the pyramid, followed by their executive leaders and corporate staff. GE's Board of Directors ensures that the company serves the interests of shareholders and other key stakeholders with the highest standards of integrity and compliance. Serving as both tough critics and wise advisors, they provide thorough oversight of the company's major strategic issues (General Electric Company, 2012). The authority officially vested in the board of directors is assigned to a chief executive officer (CEO), who occupies the top of the organizational pyramid (Bateman & Snell, 2011). There chai...... middle of paper ......ic Company is a great example of how a company can change its organizational strategies to improve its company. By moving from a tall organization to a flat one, they are now able to work together to help the company be more successful. Works Cited Bateman, T.S., & Snell, S.A. (2011).
