Hormonal imbalance is a nutritional problem, not a medical problem. An increase in the amount of estrogen in our body can cause health problems with the hormones. These hormones control our metabolism; they determine when we are hungry, what we crave, how we use food as energy, and how much we use. Hormonal imbalances can cause underactive thyroid, polycystic ovary syndrome, and Cushing's syndrome. These are all major factors that explain why individuals become overweight and obese. Underactive thyroid causes an individual's thyroid gland to not produce enough thyroid hormone, which slows their metabolism, increasing their weight. Cushing's syndrome occurs when too much of the hormone cortisol is produced by the adrenal glands. If an individual takes a certain medicine for a long period of time in high doses, they may also develop Cushing's syndrome. Cushing's syndrome causes people to have fat in the upper body, gain mass, and develop a round face, but thin arms and legs. PCOS affects women around the age of giving birth. They inherit health problems, reproductive problems and are obese. These women also get excessive hair growth. High levels of hormones cause these health problems. Hormones play a significant role in how much people eat and how much weight they develop. Women often suffer from hormonal imbalance if their menstrual cycle occurs often. Hormones are a major factor in obesity because they play a huge role in our bodies and how we survive. Hormonal health problems have been shown to be a strong reason why people are obese and why they gain weight. Hormonal health problems are difficult to prevent and can occur
