In many literary works, characters often have to adapt to life in a new environment. In the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, a man lives in a society and it turns out not to be what he thought it was. Okonkwo, the main character of the novel, must adapt to new environments not only physically, but also mentally. After unintentionally killing someone, Okonkwo is banished from his clan for 7 years and has to move to his homeland, where he hasn't been since he started to become a very famous wrestler. He has to adapt to that environment again. After the 7 years have passed and he returns to his clan, Okonkwo finds that he has changed a lot over time and must adapt again. As he moves from place to place, Okonkwo begins to find himself mentally in a new environment as well. To begin with, Okonkwo is a very proud and selfish man. Okonkwo wants anything that will put him in a higher place of power in the clan. Furthermore, Okonkwo thinks that if things are not the way he wants them, then they are bad or wrong. He is incapable of adapting to new environments...
