President Dwight D Eisenhower founded (NASA) in 1958. The agency was primarily civilian and non-military, to encourage peaceful applications in space science instead of displaying military might. NASA literally took off, starting with rockets that flew faster than anything before. Progressing to unmanned space missions. Launching satellites into space. NASA has made countless advancements in the space program. To date, NASA has flown 166 manned space missions. (Wikipedia 2015). There are nine more launches planned before the end of 2015. This progress has not been without tragic consequences. Unfortunately, we lost a total of 14 dedicated astronauts in two accidents. One of the shuttles exploded while leaving Earth's atmosphere and the other disintegrated upon re-entry
