One of the most controversial topics is that they could cause allergic reactions due to genetic crossbreeding and that it is not safe to consume them (genetically modified foods…). Genetic crossbreeding is the process used to create genetically modified seeds that would later become food. Even though it is said to cause allergic reactions, most of the food we consume these days is genetically modified and we are still fine. At least 85% of soybeans, corn and canola come from GM seeds; most of the cooking oil we consume is most likely genetically modified and the world has not yet faced any problem related to the consumption of genetically modified foods (genetically modified foods…). It is safe due to the extensive research conducted by researchers which is overlooked by the food and drug administration. There was research conducted in 2012 by the University of Caen in France, “claimed that one of Monsanto's corn GMOs caused tumors in laboratory rats.” But the research was abandoned due to inaccurate testing methods. Another research conducted by the University of Perugia in Italy, “published a review of 1,783 GMO safety tests; 770 examined the health impacts on humans and animals” and found that no foods were harmful. If it is dangerous, the product will not even make it to the market (Broke Borel). Another problem is that people fear that genetically modified plants could escape into the wild and cause harm
