A company's goal is long-term success and growth. To achieve this, companies must constantly evaluate the market and the environment and be prepared for the changes that will occur. Even a previously highly successful company can fail if it doesn't manage change and have a strategic plan. Using environmental scanning a company can monitor trends that could impact performance and use this information to maintain and drive success. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate how Yahoo, Inc. could have used environmental scanning to improve performance and prevent company decline. Environmental scanning is the acquisition and use of information about events, trends, and relationships in the organization's external environment ( Choo, 2001 ). This information can then be used in planning future actions for an organization. There are many variables that contribute to environmental scanning, including natural, social, and work environments (Wheelen & Hunger, 2012). In the case of Yahoo, Inc. the following external factors have had a great influence in the struggle the company has faced recently: technological progress, changing pace of life and competitor analysis. By evaluating Internet companies and their lifespans, Yahoo could have recognized the problem more quickly and refocused efforts... middle of paper... I will remain in the dark.
