When talking about some important events before the 19th century in the United States, we must mention the abolition movement, which began in the 1930s and ended with the Emancipation Proclamation. Just as our textbook---A Short History of the American Nation, "No reform movement of this era has been more significant, more ambiguous in character, or more provocative to subsequent historical inquiry than the impulse to abolish slavery". it was not only significant for itself, that is, slavery was abolished and black slaves were freed, but it was also significant for the entire nation, because it exerted many influences on American society and economy. In this article I will first present a brief introduction about slaves in North America. Secondly, I would like to present a systematic overview of the Abolition Movement. Finally, I will summarize the influences of this movement on America in two aspects: economy and society. So I will come to the conclusion of this article. Slavery in North America The history of slavery can be traced back to much earlier times. During the colonial period, there were many Europeans in North America who worked as slaves. They wanted to seek a better life in North America, but were sold to colonial rulers as slaves. We all know that the sale of black slaves was the most vicious trade in human history. However, the enormous amount of profits from the sale of black slaves became the main source of capital accumulation for Americans. In the 18th century, black slaves had a decisive influence on the development of Southern plantations. Because Southern plantation products were sold on the world market, the plantation economy was the commercial production of capitalism. Plantation owners gained many benefits from slavery, so they kept it... middle of paper... a very important role in the history of the United States. During his trial, there were many famous people and heroes, moreover, some significant events. Furthermore, the Abolition Movement exerted great influences on America both economically and socially. By studying this movement, we can gain more insight into American history. Since I do not have more specific, deep and broad knowledge on this aspect, in this article I simply presented the general process of the Abolition Movement and concluded with its influences. Finally, this topic should be paternally improved and explored in my future study. References[1] John A.
