A multitude of important legal and social issues confront individuals and groups in Australian society on a daily basis. To effectively manage these issues and move through the legal and moral mental field that appeals to them, it is important that young people are informed about their legal positions, rights, responsibilities and duties in relation to everything around them (Eekelaark, 1992). . As a result of completing a course of legal studies, young people in their senior learning phase can develop a greater ability to recognize and discuss different legal situations and issues that arise during their time at school and in their lives outside the classroom. . Through processes of critical analysis, examination, and problem solving, legal studies students are empowered to make decisions that can benefit themselves and communities at large (Citizenship Foundation, 2012). For this reason, the integration of values and values-based education is becoming increasingly important, as signaled by national policy documents and curriculum frameworks focusing on values education across Australia. Students' learning experiences, particularly as they relate to legal studies, should incorporate a range of values and notions relating to social justice and fairness for all, as these values are at the heart of Australian law and justice systems like them. we know (Connell, 1993).
