Flannery O'ConnorWhen writing a piece of literature, the content is often influenced by the background of the person writing. The author, consciously or unconsciously, adds personal experiences or beliefs to their pieces. Flannery O'Connor is a good example of this trend. His stories illustrate the difficulties, beliefs and society of the era in which he lived and wrote. It is demonstrated most prominently in his collection of short stories titled A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Other Stories. Flannery O'Connor reflects her illness, in the mutilation of her characters, in her religion, in the type of characters she chooses and in her being an outcast from society, in the traits of her characters, in all the plots of her stories. Flannery O'Connor “Connor's genetic disease, which led to her death, played a key role in the development of the characters in her stories. O'Connor lost his father to systemic lupus erythematosus. It is a disease that leads to a malfunction within the body which causes the production of antibodies that attack the body's tissues; it is an autoimmune disease ("Flannery O'Connor Biography"). This killed her father when she was still a teenager. Nine years later, O'Connor herself contracted the same disease which was thought to be incurable at the time. it did not allow her to write and was soon reduced to walking only with crutches due to the deformity of her hip bone. This is strikingly similar to his character in "Good Country People." Hulga's character also had leg disabilities. He uses his wooden leg to his advantage, for example, every morning he goes down the stairs banging his wooden leg just to be unpleasant. halfway through the paper......her stories she was able to relate her stories to the time period she was in. Through exaggerated and shocking details in the plot, O'Connor was able to efficiently and effectively drive home the point she was trying to get across to her selected audience.
