Topic > Informal Classroom Assessment Assessment - 811

In this assessment method, the teacher evaluates the student on his or her ability to apply his or her knowledge and actual performance, not on his or her ability to answer questions correctly. Personally, my favorite format for performance evaluation is the portfolio format. According to Popham, “the main premise in portfolio assessment is that a detailed collection of a student's evolving work will allow both the student and you to determine the student's progress” (Popham 243 ). Therefore, the teacher collects the artifacts that the student has completed throughout the year and keeps them in one place. Over time, they are able to see how much improvement has occurred and determine whether they have understood the material. I believe performance assessments are much more accurate because they show the student's true range of growth and improvement over time and I plan to use these types of assessments frequently in my studies.
