The conflict in her life is that she belongs to two different cultural groups, in which she wants to embrace both groups except her adult and child grandmother whom she nicknamed "terrible grandmother", not allows them to do so. The setting took place outside a church where the horrible grandmother went to pray, leaving the children, Micaela, and her two brothers outside until she returned. The horrible grandmother orders the children to stand at the entrance and do nothing, such as cross the street to play, buy fried foods, balloons, comics, etc., live like an American child. They also could not enter the church where their Mexican culture is practiced. Therefore, Micaela became irritated by waiting so long, so she entered the church to see what was taking so long to pray, however, the terrible grandmother told her to leave and wait.
