We may love a song, a type of clothing, or even a pet. The most important thing is that we love other people, whether they are male or female. We grew up believing that it was okay for a boy to love a girl or for a girl to love a boy. If a boy loved a boy or a girl loved another girl, it was seen as something strange or out of place. In 2012, Macklemore changed this criticism and opened my eyes to how gays were treated by society. “Same Love” comes from a first-person point of view, starting with an explanation of how Macklemore believed he was gay at a young age and that being religious and going to church dissuaded him from the idea. He says that “God loves all his children” is somehow forgotten, proving that it is foolish to hate homosexuals if everyone is truly in God's hands. He continues to explain the hatred that people express against homosexuals in society. He says he believes that if he were gay, some of his fans would hate him and that people use the word "gay" to describe something other than what it really means: loving someone of the same sex. So an inspirational movement begins basically saying that we need to stand up for what is right and make it our own
