However, the functional model is the main model I will work with because as an occupational therapist I focus on patients' ability to perform activities of daily living. This is my specialty, so it makes sense that I mostly use the functional model. I will re-teach people how to do these daily activities but with modifications due to their disability. For example, I would like to re-teach people who have had a stroke how to button their shirt. I believe I will use the environmental model when evaluating patients' homes to see how well they can successfully navigate within their homes. However, I would primarily use this model when working with individuals with delayed sensory impairments and working with psychiatric disabilities because the environment can negatively or positively influence their abilities.
