When I started planning my project, I was undecided about what I wanted to do. I was stuck between a musical composition and a poem. I wanted to sketch a song because I love music. Since I grew up surrounded by all genres of music, music became my escape. Then I realized that I could do both, but more in the form of poetry. A song is a poem, but it has a variety of materials that a poem does not have, such as instruments, melody, and harmony. A song and a poem have differences, but they also have similarities, such as style and rhythm. I stuck to the forms because they are a similar literary genre; it helped me build a successful piece. The process of my final product was simpler: writing a poem, than writing a song and adding instruments, coming up with a chorus, and figuring out the key or intonation. It took me a day to write my poem and even though it was easier than making up a song, I still struggled. I didn't know how long I wanted it to last, what topic it would be about, and what kind of poem it would be. I started brainstorming about things women go through on a daily basis like abuse, pregnancy, and relationship issues. I chose to write my poem about abuse in a marriage. In today's society, women go through many difficulties in marriage; some women are victims and many survive, but many do not. I wrote a love poem. My love poem is about real events, but I had to add a twist to it. I wanted to make it a mystery and capture the audience's attention. I wanted to do a free style poem because, because I didn't want the type of poem, I was writing in rhyme. I felt I didn't have to rhyme to capture the reader's or audience's attention. My poem tells the story of how a marriage went wrong. It was hard to come up with a title, but as I continued to read my poem aloud, t...... middle of paper ......e. I learned that an art form like poetry could play an important role in the humanities. I enjoyed doing this project and look forward to similar assignments down the road. This was a fun project for me to do. As soon as I finished my composition, I had the desire to write more. I didn't think I would like to write a poem because I thought I couldn't imagine certain things and write them. I didn't know I had that abundance of creativity in me. I've learned that writing poems about real-life events can be disturbing, and the writer can get emotional by putting themselves in that individual's shoes. I got very emotional during the writing process because a woman should not be a victim in a marriage. Researching and planning this poem taught me a lot about the topic I based it on. Composing the entire project and product inspired me to write more poems in the future.
