Interestingly, MacArthur realized how the circular model of economy could benefit the world after breaking the world record for circumnavigating the globe in a sailboat. As she said during an engineering and technology design (TED) talk, "I realized that we've been perfecting what is effectively a 150-year linear economy, where we take a material out of the ground, make something out of it, and then eventually eventually that product is thrown away, and yes we recycle some of it, but more of an attempt to get what we can in the end, not by design. This circular economic model introduces a completely different mindset than the one the world currently operates in , but it could very likely revolutionize the way consumers and distributors work. Instead of owning, for example, a dishwasher, consumers could own a license to use the dishwasher. Then, when the company develops a new dishwasher, the obsolete unit would be recycled and used. a new one inserted. In conclusion, after examining the differences between the linear economy model and the circular economy model, we should have come to better understand what they are. The linear economy relies solely on supply to produce the product. The circular economy depends on recycling obsolete products to continue production. The question then becomes: how will society successfully make the transition without a harsh market?
