An excellent Evening of Books written by Elie Wiesel and the fantastic film The Boy in the Undressed Pajamas directed by Mark Herman portrayed many themes that are in common. The book Night talks about the Jews forced to abandon their homes and their belongings, taken to concentration camps and tortured by the Germans. The film The Boy in the Undressed Pajamas is about two eight-year-old boys, Bruno and Shmuel, and their friendship, and how their friendship took shape in different forms as support and hope. Unfortunately, they shouldn't be friends because; Bruno is the son of the German officer, who is responsible for giving command to the officers. Shmuel was a Jew who has to suffer for what Bruno's father commands and decides that hope is something a person loses very quickly and is difficult to regain. Likewise, in both the film and the novel, there was hope among the people and they maintained hope until the end. In Night there was hope in the people that one day they would be freed and return to their normal lifestyle. Another way Elie showed hope was that when they moved from camp to camp they hoped that each camp was better than the previous one. As they move from one camp to another they will have the opportunity to know who is still healthy and able to work. This test gave them hope because; if they pass the test then they know for sure that they can survive in that camp, after which they won't have to worry about being killed until the next evacuation. In the film hope presented itself differently, in the film there was hope for Shmuel that with the help of his new friend Bruno he would be able to find his lost father. The ironic part of this scene is that Shmuel had hope in a German boy whose father is the reason why they all got stuck in the camp and had to work like dogs all day. His father is also the reason why Shmuel lost his father. Through this film and novel both Mark Herman and Elie Wiesel try to give a message: never lose hope until the end and you can have hope from anyone, no matter what age, gender, race or religion it is said that those who help you in difficult times they are the ones who will stay with you forever. Both the film and the novel explained this very well. Both depicted how your loved one will stay with you until the end. In the movie Bruno really valued his friendship with Shmuel, but he had to lie to the officer because he was afraid of them, which made him feel guilty and also made the relationship stronger. This made him stronger because now he thinks that he should support Shmuel in his difficult times. After the incident with the officer, Bruno thought of doing something or helping Shmuel so that he can get his only friend and trust back. While wondering how he could help, Shmuel told Bruno that his father was missing, that's when Bruno thought of helping Shmuel. When he entered the camp he wanted to give up and go back but, when he saw that his friend was sad about the decision, he decided to stay and look for him. This is a great symbol of friendship, trust, hope and support. In the novel expressing support and love was at the beginning of the novel itself. Elie Weisel supported his father in every camp selection and helped him learn to march because, he could not bear to see his father being beaten, despite the fact that people made fun of them, chose to ignore them and fight for themselves.
