College is a place where you open your mind and see the different options that are offered to you, from sports, to engineering, to literature, and many other subjects. Many graduates think that college is just a place to go to get a higher salary, while this is somewhat true, students should pursue a career that values them, rather than a job that only pays a large sum. As Danielle Allen writes: “But we don't want to create an environment in which people can't understand what they should try to do because, as a nation, we are rightly trying to increase the efficiency with which we match human capital to the labor market.” (2) Teenagers today are pressured by their parents and the media to get the most popular jobs such as those in the medical and engineering fields, but they are completely unaware of the fact that they may not like the job itself. While not completely ignoring the income from a profession, scholars must learn that studying something they are passionate about will become better for them in the long run because it is something they will work on for a long time.
