I believe that workforce preparation is a justifiable use of schooling and is educationally sound. I find it to be a justifiable use of school because it helps promote human growth (Brighouse 59). Helping students thrive is an important part of education in a democratic society because it can provide them with the freedom to decide about their own future. Workforce preparation is also educationally valuable as it will allow students to learn the skills needed to continue on the life path they wish to take. This will improve their knowledge in different fields which is a purpose of education. Although there are some predictions about the possible extinction of the workforce, I believe that it is still important to prepare future generations for work because it will teach them lessons that will be useful in life even if work ceases to exist (Thompson 6). Some of these lessons would involve carrying out tasks and working with others, as well as personalized skills that could be used in everyday life and which depend on the type of job a student is preparing for. Helping students master skills like these is important to thriving (Brighouse 61). Therefore, I believe that combining workforce preparation with traditional academic preparation would provide many benefits to students, whether or not work ceases to exist in the world of work..
