I want to first start by saying that this was the first summer course I ever took and it was definitely a learning experience. I learned a lot during the course of this lesson. The thing I learned is that a first draft is really just a first draft and not the finished product. Previously I usually just made a draft and turned it in as a final revision. This course has taught me that my old way of doing things is unacceptable. When I reviewed my essays from this course I realized how many stupid mistakes I made throughout the essay; whether it's punctuation, misspelled words, or disorganization. I also believe this is where my writing has improved the most. From the first lesson you said that revision is like I said before, this is the first time I have taken the time to thoroughly review my work. The entire writing process has changed for me over the course of this semester. Every step of the writing process is critical to a well-rounded essay. For every essay I wrote during the semester I followed the same process. First, I would come up with an idea and try to write as much as I could about it. For example, during the prewriting phase of the analytical essay I brainstormed how my commercial was similar and different from the one analyzed by Scholes. This was extremely helpful because it helped me structure a well-organized skeleton of my article before I started writing. After I got all my thoughts down, I would start writing my draft. This was an opportunity to expand my immature ideas. I wouldn't force myself to write an A+ article on the first try, but I would try to organize my thoughts in a way that makes the most sense. Organization was key for me as I wrote the draft. I believe organization is one of the most important things when it comes to writing because without it your thoughts will be all over the place and won't make sense.
