(K)This verse shows the vile result of the war. The final words of each line have a connection to war and death. Owens also uses words like sin, blood, lungs and cud. All of these words correspond to death, and that's why Owens used those words to resemble the vivid details of war. Furthermore, in this stanza the two K's are similar to each other because cud describes someone who returns food to the mouth after digesting it. Likewise, when someone is hit in war they usually have blood coming out of their mouth, so the two words are similar. Additionally, Owens uses rhyming words at the end of each verse that have a relationship with each other. Another verse that had the same concept was in lines 1-4: Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, (A) With swollen knees, coughing like witches, we cursed in the mud,
