Many ethnic groups are portrayed in the media both negatively and positively. Hispanics are groups that are mostly portrayed negatively in all types of media. Many Hispanics are judged simply by what they wear, where they are from, and just because they are Hispanic. In my examples I chose they show Hispanics being judged just because they are Hispanic, Hispanics being judged because they look like a Hispanic gangster, Hispanic teenagers being judged because they live, the stereotype that all Hispanics are immigrants, and my The last example shows that non-Hispanics are not shown negatively in the media. Even though I'm Hispanic, I've never found myself in a situation just because I'm Hispanic. My first example is from a TV show that most people are familiar with, "George Lopez" is a show about a Hispanic family living the basic daily life. There are many stereotypes shown in this TV show. One of the episodes shows George being mistaken for one of the men working on the machines even though he was the director of the factory. His new co-manager told him to move the desk because he had no idea that George was the factory manager. She judged him by what he was wearing and also he was Hispanic in a factory. This TV show has a lot of stereotypes shown in other episodes. Hispanics are judged just because they look like gang members. When people think of gangsters, they will most likely think of a Hispanic person. The movie "Crash" starring Sandra Bullock has a scene where she acts really racist towards a locksmith who was working to replace the doors in her house that had recently been broken into. She had asked her husband to change the locks on the house again because...... middle of paper ...... and Same Moon” is a film about a Mexican boy who faces a great challenge by crossing that border just to reunite with his mother who he hasn't seen for five years. Most media shows Hispanics in a negative way, but this movie shows how Hispanics are shown in an independent drama film. All Hispanics should realize that the media will never change. The media will always be the same. All my examples show that the media mostly has a negative view towards Hispanics, but there are also some that show positive views. Hispanics are judged for who they are, what they look like, and where they come from. Stereotypes can be funny and should not be considered offensive, but that doesn't mean it's okay to say them or use them to make fun of people. Some Hispanics are judged and some are not. I am only half Hispanic and from what I know I am not judged for who I am and no one should.
