Some of the conventional elements of Renaissance art are conveyed in Michelangelo's sculpture. The amount of intricate detail in this sculpture stands out. The two people are depicted with convincing realism. Renaissance humanism features prominently in sculpture. The two people are depicted as normal human beings. Another interesting feature of the sculpture is its secular nature. There is very little about this sculpture that identifies it as religious. The markings on the hand indicate that it could be Jesus, but if it is Christ the sculpture shows no hint of his divine nature.
