As a teacher I hope to adopt both methods to help my students achieve the outcomes set for them in all areas of learning, however I must keep in mind the reasons why some students may not be achieving results. Diagnostic assessment is a relationship with formative assessment; however as a teacher I must remember the difference between the two. I will use formative assessment to show learning progress. I must be careful that diagnostic assessment is a process in which I find out why or how a student is struggling with a concept and support it so that it does not hinder their understanding. To do this I can make changes to my lesson, change my instructions to reinforce concepts and break down barriers to learning success. I believe that, with the support of formative assessment to monitor, diagnostic assessment to intervene if necessary and summative assessment to assess understanding, a unit of work is
