Effective teamwork Effective teamwork has eight characteristics that are under the control of the project manager and that could contribute to project success: • Create a clear goal that instills a sense of mission. • Provide a results-oriented structure • Assemble a competent team with a good balance between personal and technical expertise. • Instill a strong sense of unified commitment. • Foster a climate that promotes collaboration. • Establish standards of excellence through individual pressure and team with the understanding that failure will have consequences.• Provide recognition for good work• Institute principled leadership. Teamwork can be seen as a continuum that is disintegrated and uncoordinated on one end and too well coordinated to the point of complete consensus (groupthink).
