It opened my perspective on the skills of an interventionist who must identify all the barriers teachers face when implementing best practices. I learned a lot, but I discovered once again that most teachers want to do the right thing, but sometimes they just don't know what to do. During my time as a behavioral specialist, I tried to convince the district to create a behavioral TEKS. I thought that if teachers embraced instructional TEKs, then perhaps by creating a behavioral TEK, teachers would place more value on teaching positive behavior than punishing negative behavior.
