Topic > The DHL Supply Chain - 1495

IntroductionDHL is present in over 220 countries and territories worldwide, making it the most international company in the world. With a workforce of more than 285,000 employees, we provide solutions for an almost infinite number of logistics needs. DHL is part of the world's leading postal and logistics group, Deutsche Post DHL and comprises three divisions: DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding, Freight and DHL Supply Chain. (DHL online)In 1969, DHL began operating the world's first door-to-door international express delivery service. When Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn founded DHL in 1969, they simultaneously invented the international express delivery industry. In the beginning, the three partners delivered the shipping documents by air, so that they arrived at the customs offices before shipment and allowed the goods to pass through customs with less delay. In 2002 DHL became part of Deutsche Post (DPWN), as Deutsche Post (DPWN) became the majority shareholder of DHL by increasing its stake to 51%. DHL Freight has 14 small and large terminals in the UK, the largest is the Coalville terminal which covers part of the south and part of the north of England, the second largest is Duns Table which covers the south of England including London and then Warrington terminal which covers the North West of England and the fourth is Mossend which covers Scotland, the remaining 11 terminals are the small ones. DHL Freight Warrington is the third largest terminal in the UK with more than 100 employees . Covers the north west of England and north Wales. It mainly has three departments (traffic operations, customer service and euro department). Only the traffic department works 24 hours a day and consists of 3 shifts (morning, next shift and night shift). The customer is...... middle of paper ...... redundant "Well, not in a specific department but CSR had completely vanished from each branch and was centralized in Coalville. Most senior level managers medium have been fired. For the operations department, i.e. the traffic department, there have been no major changes because the movement of traffic (trucks and postal vans) is the backbone of the business. They have not fired any employees from the operations department. otherwise the company would have risked collapsing” (Night Operations Manager, interview 1) Competition has increased in the market, not only from new small companies, but also from mergers of larger companies. This has resulted in considerable pressure on prices and therefore a reduction in margins. DHL's main competitors in the UK are FedEx UPS TNT and Royal Mail (Cawsey, T.
