1. How do scribbles become writing for young children? Discuss the natural process a child goes through in teaching himself to write. Doodling helps develop writing skills. “The scribble hypothesis predicts that young children who are encouraged to scribble and draw, and to talk and write, to do calculations and to compose on their scribbles and drawings will read more easily and continue to read for pleasure and information, they will write more easily and will continue to write for pleasure as well as disseminate information, will show an “innate” affinity for geometry, and will, in general, think in a more connected and unpredictable, or creative way” (Sheridan, 2001). Children begin to scribble uncontrollably. Then scribble everywhere on the paper. For example, Billy just learned to doodle. Billy doodles uncontrollably because he has no experience in doodling. Children should be encouraged to doodle. Doodling helps children learn to control their scribbling. After a child learns to scribble, it will become writing. Children learn to doodle when they use different writing utensils in the writing center. Children can use different things to learn to doodle. Children can use paint to help with their doodles. Then there's the controlled scribble. “Once children have developed manual control of a drawing tool, they begin to create all kinds of doodles” (Beaty & Pratt, 2011). Doodling is important for children because they acquire writing skills. The natural process for writing is learned writing without being imposed on children. Natural writing is done when a child wants to write or scribble on their own. The natural process of writing occurs when children scribble on a line......in the center of the paper......eaty& Pratt, 2011). When I was little my sister learned the alphabet from me. Children can use books and other materials to help them learn their alphabets. “Many experiences with environmental print, books, and other literacy materials give children the opportunity to become familiar with letters and sounds” (education.com). Teachers should provide materials for children to learn their alphabet. For example, teachers could ask children to watch videos about alphabets. It is possible for children to learn their alphabet by listening to others say it. “Children who love technology could learn to recognize letters from computer games or by printing the same letter in different fonts” (education.com). Since then, there are several ways for children to learn their alphabets. Children might enjoy it more if they can choose how they would like to play with the alphabet.
