Technology allows many people to make their voices heard and possibly make others listen (Castells). People believe they can make a difference, because suddenly they no longer need an office to house their movements, they need the Internet. Citizens can participate directly in the movements that matter to them, making governance not feel as distant as it might have previously. These possibilities further encourage people to make their voices heard by putting pressure on states to listen to their problems and possibly find more appropriate solutions.
