The husband did not know that he would reach a serious breaking point in his feelings about the blind. Knowing that Robert could not see the television but could only hear the detailed descriptions of the cathedrals, his husband was kind enough to explain to him what was shown in the pictures. He said things like “Gargoyles. Small statues carved to look like monsters. And “there are paintings on the walls of this church.” Robert then asked him to explain how the cathedrals looked in Portuguese compared to those in French and Italian. Not knowing what to say he began to invent a lot of things but in reality he repeated the same thing only with different words. He immediately became frustrated and admitted that he knew nothing about cathedrals. To her surprise, Robert was understanding and knew a way to make things better. She asked him to get heavy paper and pens so they can do something together. After returning, the husband and Robert sat together and he told him to start drawing. Not knowing how to draw, the husband began to draw his cathedral to the best of his ability, while Robert's hand dictated it to him during every movement. Finally, when she was still drawing, her husband's last comment was "that's really amazing." Which I played as him now knowing what it feels like to have no vision but still feel like you
