The novel Pride and Prejudice is a romantic comedy by Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice is the story of an unlikely couple who go through many obstacles before finally getting together. Pride is one's opinion of oneself, and prejudice is how a person feels others perceive them. The novel, Pride and Prejudice, uses the plot, the characters of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennet, and the status of women and social position, to represent the theme of the novel: pride and prejudice. The plot of the novel follows traditional plot guidelines; although there are many small conflicts, there is a central one that sets the stage for the novel. The novel is about an embarrassing topic; mismatched couple and their five daughters. The novel begins with Mrs. Bennet telling her daughters about the importance of marrying well. During this time a wealthy man, Charles Bingley, moves near Netherfield, where the Bennets reside. The Bennet girls struggle to capture his attention, and Jane, who judges no one, is the daughter who manages to win his heart, until Mr. Bingley suddenly leaves town. Mr. Bingley is often accompanied by Fitzwilliam Darcy, who is a very proud man. Elizabeth Bennet, who is proud of herself, and Mr. Darcy do not like each other from the beginning, these two characters represent the central conflict in the novel. As the novel progresses, Elizabeth receives a marriage proposal from her cousin, Mr. Collins, and rejects it. Mr. Collins then proposes to Charlotte Lucas, Elizabeth's best friend, who accepts. Elizabeth then leaves home to stay with the Collinses who live near Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Mr. Darcy's aunt. While all this is going on, Mr. Darcy realizes that he has feelings for Elizabeth and proposes to her, this... in the middle of the paper... a call from Her Ladyship, and nothing has escaped his observation..." Lady Catherine noticed the flaws in everyone and used her position and title of "Lady" to elevate herself above everyone and seem superior to them. Her position makes her proud and she flaunts it in a negative way throughout the novel, to support the recurring theme and title of the novel, Pride and Prejudice. Pride is not always a good thing; it can very quickly lead to arrogance and contempt. Prejudice is not necessarily a bad thing, and sometimes it is never inevitable to dislike a person friend is a plus. Jane Austen dramatized the theme of pride and prejudice, through the plot, of her main characters, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, and demonstrated how women's status and social status can. lead to pride and prejudice.
